I have worked in Ponte Vedra Beach since 2004 and did not realize until a new flex work schedule the one thing that Ponte Vedra Beach is missing …. a coffee shop! Ya’ll, what is up with that? Yes, there’s a Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, but Ponte Vedra Beach doesn’t have a small, locally owned coffee shop that feels like home. Think Friends, “Central Perk,” sans Gunther, the goofy barista in love with Rachel. If a small and quaint coffee shop that offers sandwiches, wine, and great fixins is what you’re looking for, pack up the laptop and head a few miles north on 3rd Street to my 4 favorites.
Round Bird Coffee Shop | 1094 3rd Street N, Jax Beach | 904-746-7993
Round Bird is a lovely South African inspired coffee shop that opened in Jax Beach in 2020. The shop is so cozy and welcoming and the staff incredibly friendly. Round Bird is NOT just a coffee shop. They offer a full menu of coffees, teas, energy spritzers, kombucha, pastries, meat pies … and wine!
Round Bird is a small business that supports other small businesses by sourcing menu items from other Jacksonville small businesses including The Sweet Room (a local online bakery), Social Grounds Coffee and YumCha Tea. The meat pies (my personal favorite) come from 4 & 20 Pasty Company in Sarasota.
Need a coffee pop-up? They do that too! The decor, environment, flavors, smells, atmosphere and location make Round Bird a perfect place to meet friends, take WFH outside and enjoy the beach scene. Another great thing about Round Bird is they are open until 7PM for you late coffee lovers too!
Sago Coffee | 318 7th Ave N, Jacksonville Beach | (904) 372-9577
Sago Coffee opened in early 2019 with a mission to bring the community of Jacksonville Beach together in an uplifting environment with great coffee and great conversation! The menu is a plethora of coffees, pour overs, lattes and teas. Looking for a delicious breakfast bowl? Sago offers acai bowls for the health conscious, sandwiches, sweets and an abundance of savory items too! There’s something for everyone in a coffee shop that offers conference room reservations, free WIFI and shared work stations. Rumor has it, their chicken salad is fantastic! Oh and another great thing about Sago? Each quarter they partner with a local cause and give 25% of profits towards a local non-profit partner. This quarter they are supporting Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol. Even more reason to make Sago your next WFH destination. Open 7AM – 5PM, 7 days a week!
Southern Grounds | 200 1st Street, Neptune Beach | (904) 853-5473
Southern Grounds is located in the heart of Neptune Beach just a short walk to the white sandy beach! Another great thing about Southern Grounds is their menu jammed packed with fantastic breakfast/brunch items, sandwiches, burgers, tacos, tartines, charcuterie and cheese, soups and salads. Don’t forget your coffee too! Outdoor patio seating is available as well as socially distanced acceptable inside seating.
The vibe, the atmosphere and the coffee make this a great coffee stop any day of the week. The later hours are also a bonus. 6:30AM – 9PM – 7 days a week. Late night coffee drinkers and work-a-holics will love this!
Southern Roots | 32 Seminole Road, Atlantic Beach | (904) 853-6642
Southern Roots is a little hidden gem “off the beatin’ path” of Atlantic Beach but close enough for a bike ride to the beach after your visit. Southern Roots appreciates the principles of organic, non-GMO living ingredients. The menu is filled with flavors for every palate including coffee, expresso, lattes, pour overs and teas. For that hungry side, you will find a fulfilling list of sandwiches, bagels, bowls, salads and toasts. Get ready to satisfy that sweet tooth in their bakery selection too!
If you’re looking to buy in bulk, you can bring your own container to Southern Roots to purchase high quality grains, seeds or soaps in bulk. WIFI and social distance approved seating available for the WFH employee looking to get out of the house! Southern Roots is open Wed-Sun from 8AM 2PM.
Did your favorite coffee shop at the beach make the list? If not, let me know and we’ll stop by to check it out too. I’ve got Breezy Coffee Shop & Wine Bar on my list too, I just haven’t made it out there yet. They have Yaba Daba Doo muffins. Yes, you read that right! Fruity Pebble Muffins! I’m all in!
