Making a difference for local children with cancer

By Gwinn Volen

Your child has cancer.

Even the thought of hearing that sentence can bring tears to ones eyes.

On October 1, 2015 that single sentenced changed the life of Ponte Vedra locals Eric and Casey Andeer and their daughter Rue.

As the Andeer family has watched their little Rue fight through the arduous healing process of life-threatening Leukemia, they knew there must be a way to improve their child’s experience. Rue and her buddy Phil Mickelson

On a 3 year treatment schedule to a cure, Rue and her family are in and out of Wolfson’s Children’s hospital on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.

In an effort to make a difference to all area kids suffering from cancer, the Andeers have created Rue’s Room, a collective effort to improve the lives of the pediatric hematology/oncology patients at Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital.

This Saturday, May 21 from 5p-9p, they hope you will join them at modelcitizen’s St.John’s Town Center location (4818 River City Dr Suite 101, Jacksonville, FL 32246) to raise money for Rue’s Rooms and The Music Therapy program at Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital.

The fundraiser will have something for everyone: face painting for the kids, some awesome silent auction items and mystery bags for adults. And, the lovely Mermaid Coral Beth will also be there. Yes, our own local mermaid!

The fundraising goal aims to accomplish the following: (1) permanently chair the Music Therapy Program at Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital; and (2) to redesign a Treatment Room on the neurological floor.
