Ponte Vedran of the Week – Kim Sears

When you think of “staples of the community” Kim Sears just may come to mind. As a Beaches and Ponte Vedra Beach lifelong resident, Kim has seen her fair share of changes in the 32082 but loves the beach life and remaining quaintness that exude here. She’s also shown her love for the the local area through supporting local organizations such as HEAL, Peace of Heart Community, River City United, The Homegrown Kindness Project and Smiles Change Lives. We’re thrilled for the opportunity to introduce you to Kim Sears!

Name: Kim Kane Sears

Occupation: Dental Hygienist since 1978 at Sears Family Dentistry

Where I Grew Up: Jacksonville FL and The Beach

A Ponte Vedran since: Close to 50 yrs PV, Palm Valley, still blessed to own The Original Shack on Water

Other Places I Have Lived: Only Lived in Jax, PV, & Jax Bch

My favorite thing about Ponte Vedra: OUR community loyalty and family life.

My least favorite thing about Ponte Vedra: The growth with highways, trees being cut down. We are losing the quaintness.

In my spare time I like to: Spend with family, beach, Hobie Cat sailing, paddleboard, exercise, gardening.

Ponte Vedran you most admire: My husband Don Sears

Dream Vacation other than Ponte Vedra: My Favorite is ALWAYS is Rincón PR

If I could invite anyone over to dinner – 2 Ponte Vedrans and one famous person – who would you invite: Ben & Liza Groshell – we are Blessed to have had numerous meals at their home and NEED to reciprocate and Willie Nelson, who has such awesome lifelong wisdom and we could have great laughs together!  (The Groshell’s and Willie together here would be SUPER!… we can do pizza on grill!?).

Last time you went to the beach: Today, so blessed to live oceanfront, I will never take it for granted.

Last Live Band Concert: Lynyrd Skynyrd at The Hollywood Hard Rock Hotel (hotel shaped like guitar) on Nov 30, 2019, and local live band early March 2020 in Atlantic Beach.

Charity or organization you are most passionate about and why: Hard to choose a FAVE org that we support.

My heart and soul have been supporting from the initiation of HEAL (Helping Enrich Autism Lives) & POHC (Peace of Heart Community) that help persons on the Autism Spectrum to achieve their potential and share their gifts with us in the community.  I get so PROUD seeing the progress and determination these individuals go through daily.  I have known Lara Lombardo since she was born almost 30 yrs ago and have seen the past 28 years the challenges with autism (now she owns Seagull Bakery), then we were part of Gentry Groshell and Lanier Weeds lives with “Our Ponte Vedra Family Community” being neighbors since very young.  These individuals have given me goosebumps so many times with their achievements. We get to see the POHC interns at the Farm, the residents, volunteers, all in glee with teamwork and special traits to achieve with their individual Talents.

The “Riding the Wave of Autism” is a Special Surfing/Sailing Beach Day Camp we initiated with Ponte Vedra Rotary, Sunrise Surf Shop, and The City of Jacksonville Beach 15 years ago (sadly cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic). It is so very special for the campers, parents, volunteers and all our family volunteers.

“The Homegrown Kindness Project”, payitforwardlvz.com, which is an Umbrella Like Organization for you to support what you may anywhere, any day, but especially on September 12 to honor Lindsay VanZant’s birthday. Lindsay was a beach native and Fletcher High Graduate who sadly passed away from a rare cancer.

St. Michaels Soldiers, supporting the heroes and she-roes of our US Military was initiated in 2010, to support locals our local military community. I was born in NAS JAX, my dad, husband, brother and son-in-law all served our US Military.

Our daughter Barbara, and her friends initiated River City United a few years ago for the “under 35 yr olds” to raise money for Local Non Profit organizations, big Gala Downtown.

Our son just recently started Smiles Change Lives at our Dental Practice.
