I spoke to Father Thomas, as he’s sometimes referred to, at a party a few months ago. Now, of course Episcopal clergy are nice people, but Tom is also well-read, witty and fun to have a cocktail with. He’s someone I genuinely liked and could have over any day, and I’m not just saying that because he’s a man of the cloth!
And what — he’s also a Walking Dead fan?! It’s too much. If you don’t know him, please seek him out. Lovely man (with a talented and interesting wife too).
Now, put your keyboards together for Father Tom Reeder!
Name: Tom Reeder
Occupation: Episcopal Priest
Where I grew up: Fredericksburg, VA
A Ponte Vedran since: 2013
Other Places I have lived? VA, CA, TX, Turkey, MD, CA (again), TN, FL, PA, FL (again), in that order… whew!
My favorite thing about Ponte Vedra: The people… very nice, welcoming, generous and laid back.
My least favorite thing about Ponte Vedra: Traffic on A1A
In my spare time I like too? I’m a clergyman, what’s “spare time”?
Ponte Vedran you most admire: Jim Cooper & Rick Westbury – the two priests who led Christ Church to be the fantastic faith community that it is today.
My favorite time in Ponte Vedra: Christ Church Annual Oyster Roast / or Christ Church Coffee House
Dream Vacation other than Ponte Vedra? Anywhere with white sand, blue water, hot sun, and cool drinks.
If I could invite anyone over to dinner – 2 Ponte Vedrans and one famous person – who would you invite? Along with my wife of course, any two of my many lovely parishioners, and…. Jesus, who else! We’d let Jesus bring a “plus one” as well, just to even out the place settings. 🙂
Last time you went to the beach: Every day in my daydreams, last week in reality.
Last time you saw live music: Every Sunday, when Lu Rubino & his band play at the Christ Church EPIC worship service!
Favorite Ponte Vedra organization: Christ Episcopal Church, of course!
Favorite Ponte Vedra restaurant (or area): Lunch – Aqua Grill; Dinner – JJ’s Liberty Bistro
Favorite place for a cocktail: At home, with my wife and friends… the booze is better and I fancy myself a bit of an amateur mixologist.
Favorite way to get exercise here: Walk on the beach or hike at the Guana Preserve.
Favorite movie: Either Gandhi or Empire of the Sun or Star Wars or Schindler’s List or… too many.
Favorite TV show: Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones… all the reverent, wholesome stuff.
Favorite book: The Bible (duh)
Favorite band or music: U2 (not very interesting, I know, but what can I say, I grew up in the 80s.)
Idea for a Ponte Vedra mascot? Squashed armadillo? If not, maybe one of those weird, algae-covered turtles swimming at Bird Island Park.
