Small Changes for a Big Impact

Before the pandemic, for fun, we did a “this or that” post using photoshop on a house The Volen Group has listed. Overwhelmingly, people like the white better.

The sellers took all that feedback into account and now the house looks like this:

They painted the exterior Benjamin Moore White Dove and added a blue accent on the front door. While painting the exterior can seem like a big change, it’s really just paint.  Before committing to a color (white paint can be especially tricky) it is a good idea to paint some swatches in different lights. Two houses painted the same color can look dramatically different based on their sun exposure, base coat, etc.  Popular white exterior paint colors include Benjamin Moore’s: Super White,  Decorator White, White Dove, and Sherwin Williams:  Alabaster, White Duck, and Pure White.

For this home for sale in Neptune Beach, adding some accessories created a more inviting space in the pool cabana. Sisal rugs are a timeless neutral that also provides necessary texture for added dimension in a room.  Affordable options are available from West Elm, World Market, and Ikea.  A mix of patterns in the same color wave paired with the multi-colored longer pillow from Target combine for a visually interesting display.  A little plant does wonders in any area of a home and together with a basket and some reading material creates a pleasant vignette on the coffee table.

Another easy switch is bedding. Adding white accents as seen below can brighten a room and feel fresh. Home Goods and Tuesday Morning are traditionally popular sources for quality linens at good prices. If the pandemic has changed your shopping and you want to support local, Mrs. Howards and Pearl Home carry beautiful options.

A few no-cost options are to clean part of the house you have been avoiding. For maximum satisfaction, first, make a giant mess. Take everything out, really scrub the shelves, floor, etc left behind and then only put back the things you love or find useful.

  • I love that you talked about the importance of adding value to your painting process. After moving to our current area, we are seeing paint chips in the exterior part of our home and my wife asked if I have any idea where we can buy luxurious paints. I appreciate you helping me learn more about the importance of paint in our home and I’ll be sure to consult a trsuted interior or exterior paint store.
