Summer feels like it is starting to wind down. Here are just a few of my favorite reads from the summer so far. Hit up Ponte Vedra Public Library for one of these. You know they also have digital books via Overdrive, right? At least a couple of these could be downloaded to your Kindle.
Best books for book club:
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: I cannot recommend this enough. Thoughtful, provoking, heartwarming, just wonderful from start to end. I don’t have her way with words so to get a brief idea of how powerful and lovely her stories are watch this Ted Talk.
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng: This book made me sad and reflect on my own life/ parenting choices in ways I cannot explain without giving away plot points.
Beach reads:
The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes: A very breezy look at the current publishing world. Something light and easy with a likable heroine.
I Take You by Eliza Kennedy: Underneath this unnecessary sex romp is a feisty book about being a strong woman.
Non-fiction:
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing – by Marie Kondo: “The” new book on cleaning out. For me. it justified all my purging and inspired even more. I found the Oprah-esque advice about whether or not items “give you joy” and thanking other things for there service i.e. you have kept me warm jacket before tossing both silly and kinda sweet.
Genius Recipes by Food 52: Bought it, gave it away, bought it again. If you don’t want to invest in another cookbook check out their amazing website when you are in a food rut.
