Ponte Vedra Beach is known for being a quaint resort town between Jacksonville and St. Augustine. History of this lovely area dates back to 1912 when it gained notoriety for minerals found along the dunes resulting in it being aptly named Mineral City. The titanium, rutile and zircon minerals located along the shorelines were vital in making steel for World War I.
But Mineral City was soon to find a new name. At the conclusion of WWI, local planners pulled together to begin the efforts of showcasing Mineral City as the incredible beach and resort town it is today. Named after Pontevedra, Galicia, a small town in northwest Spain, known for its hospitality, Ponte Vedra Beach made its place on the Northeast Florida coastline.
In 1928, the opening of the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club would put Ponte Vedra Beach even further on the map as a resort town. Add to that the commencement of THE PLAYERS Championship annual golf tournament in 1940, and Ponte Vedra Beach would have all eyes on this once cozy town. This tournament would bring professional golfers and spectators from around the world to to its white sandy coastline year after year.
This once unheard of community has since become home to over 28,000 residents who relish in the lifestyle, weather and beach life offered in Ponte Vedra Beach. Gwinn Volen, a Ponte Vedra Beach top real estate agent and Owner of The Volen Group at Keller Williams Luxury made the move to Ponte Vedra Beach in 2006 from Pasadena, California. Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Gwinn has lived in numerous cities throughout her life but loves the lifestyle found only here.
Gwinn loves the beach life, the ease of getting around, the active lifestyle with outdoor activities, waterside dining and proximity to great locations to visit. If this isn’t enough to spark your interest in calling Ponte Vedra Beach home, we’ve added some other top choices!
St. Johns County School System
St. Johns County is known for it’s A-Rated School system and consistently ranks as #1 in the State of Florida. Whether it’s public school or private, there’s no going wrong when you choose the schools offered in and around the area.
Phenomenal Golf Options
Whether you’re a fan or an amateur player, there’s undoubtedly a nearby golf option for you. Ponte Vedra Beach is home to many private membership golf courses including The Lagoon and Ocean Course of Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, The East or West Course of Sawgrass Country Club and of course, the Stadium Course at TPC. These courses offer membership options for all levels whether for competitive or casual play. If you’re looking for public options in the area, The Yards in TPC offers non-member play as well.
The Beach Life
Snow day? What’s a snow day? We’re fortunate enough to not have experienced “snow” on The First Coast since 1989 but we’re showered with warm weather and bright sunshine nearly every day. Sure we have the occasional hurricane but the sunshine outnumbers those days tenfold. The beach proximity in Ponte Vedra Beach is golden and one of the top reasons, if not the #1 reason, people love calling it home. It comes as no surprise that Ponte Vedra Beach was named in CNN’s 22 Can’t Miss Beaches. One of the fun parts of the beach, aside from the surfing and relaxing opportunities it provides is the shark tooth hunting. Every day locals and tourists scour the sandy shoreline in search of shark teeth (and sea glass) to start or add to their collection.
Real Estate in Ponte Vedra Beach
There’s truly a home for everyone where you will find cozy Ponte Vedra Beach condos if you’re looking to stay away from yard work and the other details associated with a larger home. If you’re up for the challenge, Ponte Vedra Beach has some lovely smaller home communities where you can still take in some gardening and not have to take care of larger living space. You find these smaller homes in neighborhoods like Dolphin Cove, Fairfield, L’Atrium, Seaside or Oakbridge in Sawgrass Players Club. If space matters, there’s a plethora of opportunities for larger estate homes throughout Ponte Vedra Beach. Whether it’s oceanfront, golf course, intracoastal or a quieter hidden neighborhood, there’s something for everyone in Ponte Vedra Beach.
