Ground was broken for Sawgrass in 1972, a private, gated community in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL located east of A1A with incredible proximity to the beach. In the beginning when construction began under the vision of land developer Jimmy Stockton, much of the focal point was placed on a golf course and surrounding real estate but the vision always included an oceanfront beach club as well. Now nestled on 1,100 acres, Sawgrass includes communities with a mix of single family homes, patio homes, townhomes, condos and beachfront condominiums.  

Residents of Sawgrass enjoy ease of access to the community with four guarded entry gates to the neighborhood including one allowing access to the beach side where the Beach Club is located. Living in Sawgrass does requires being a member of the Sawgrass Master Homeowners Association, however, it does not require membership to the Sawgrass Country Club.

Sawgrass Country Club

Sawgrass Country Club offers several membership options. A full club membership includes access to two golf courses, 13 tennis courts, a fitness center with lap pool, and access to the Beach Club. The Beach Club includes two pools, as well as dining and various social events. Social Membership and Guest Membership is also available. Community & Culture

Sawgrass offers something for everyone including the beach, pool, boating, fishing and, of course, golf.

Beach – Residents, and their accompanied guests, have beach access available by way of the Beach Gate on Ponte Vedra Boulevard whether by bike, golf cart or vehicle. The access ramp, located to the right of the open-air pavilion, is an easement where beach-goers may pull up for drop off and pick-up only. Parking in this area is for Club Members and their guests only.

Pool – The community pool, for all residents and their accompanied guests, is located at South Nine Drive and Sawgrass Drive. This recreational area offers lots of relaxation and fun in the sun. Pool hours are posted by the Association.

Boating & Fishing – The waterways of Sawgrass include lakes and wetlands. These area are superb for water enjoyment, however, the Association frowns upon swimming in the lakes. Looking to boat or fish? Be sure to do so in a manner that does not interfere with the golf play and certainly do not trespass on private property. The park areas located on Preston Trail along Lake Julia, Deer Run and Osprey Point are great for fishing. Boating on the waterways with gas powered boats is not permitted and boating is limited to daylight hours only.

Location & Lifestyle

Sawgrass is located in the sunny, resort town of Ponte Vedra Beach just 20 minutes south of Jacksonville in St. Johns County, the #1 Highest Earning County in the State of Florida according to Stacker.com. Families looking to get away to the Orlando attractions including Disney World, Epcot, SeaWorld or Islands of Adventure have only a short 2 hour drive – perfect for fun weekends out of town. St. Augustine is also a favorite for locals with a short 30 minute drive south on A1A.

Sawgrass includes a wide array of home types ranging up from $400,000 to over $1M. Although we don’t experience four full seasons, we are fortunate to have ocean breezes with cooler months beginning in late November through mid March, but don’t quote us on that because you just never can tell what the “winter” season will bring.

The Sawgrass resident profile includes a varied mix, however, with the excellent A+ Rated Schools available in St. Johns County, Ponte Vedra Beach has seen quite the surge of families looking to relocate to our quaint city. Sawgrass is zoned for PVPV/Rawlings Elementary, Landrum Middle School and Ponte Vedra High School. With the growth in families relocating, the Sawgrass Country Club has happily accommodated to add activities for the younger generation including kid’s night out, after school programs, summer camps, movie night, swim team, child care and more.

Homes for sale in Sawgrass sell for ~ $400K and up given the variety of homes in the community from small condos/townhomes to estate homes. In recent months, the median sale price for Sawgrass homes has been $590,500. The typical Sawgrass real estate listing spends an average of 38 days on the market and sells for 98.9% of list price.
